Another point that I feel with Kelli's dad is that every man likes to consider himself the hero of his own story. What happens when you come to grips with the fact that you aren't a hero but actually a coward.

You know what's really sad about this moment? I feel this is the root cause of many parents alienating their children. All kids eventually say "no" to their parent. It's part of them growing up and becoming adults while developing their own identity, but some parents take it personally when the kid does things they wish they should have done. While I'm not saying that it makes what they do ok and I think there should atone for their actions, it does explain a lot more than the fear of lost traditions or the fear of their kids failing. Sometimes, it's not a fear at all. As sad as it is, some parents are jealous of their kids being brave.
